Specialists/PCP Schedule 2009-10 (.xls)

News:   Have you seen the new kiosk on the 2nd floor outside the library?  The kiosk will be used to showcase student work they are doing in multimedia.  New exhibits will be rotated through the kiosk so that students and parents can view and listen to the digital work created by our students.  Our first exhibit in March will feature research projects and audio recordings about African countries completed by Team 3.

Home: The kiosk is connected to the internet so you can also view and listen to projects from the comfort of your home! Just click here.

iPhone:  Want to listen to and view projects "on the move"?  The kiosk also works with iPhones!  Just click here and you can view and listen to projects right on your iPhone!

Introduction
Mr. Dunnigan has been in the field of education for nearly fifteen years.  He holds a Masters Degree in Teaching and Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  Prior to his work in education he spent ten years working in the computer software industry.  Jim has taught grades K-6 in both the Seattle and Shoreline school districts. He also has experience working as a school administrator managing a variety of district-wide technology projects.

My Philosophy
Mr. Dunnigan believes strongly in providing all students with a rich
set of experiences using technology.  Students in his class have opportunities to use a wide variety of digital tools to create projects and demonsrate learning.  Projects are integrated as closely as possible with the classroom curriculum.  The technology program at Montlake is designed to incorporate and integrate library and research skills.  Mr. Dunnigan brings enthusiasm and dedication to making Montlake's technology program the very best it can be.
Current Projects

Endangered Animals

TEAM II  We share the earth with a large number of animals that depend on having a habitat to live.  As human endeavors and environmental concerns continue to encroach on animal habitat some creatures inevitably risk extinction.

This unit teaches the student the “Web of Life” to help them understand the inter-relationships between humans, plants, animals, and other natural resources.  Our focus of learning will be centered around endangered animals.

Each student will select an endangered animal to study.  Rather than doing typical written “animal report” our students will be asked to research their animal and create a song or movie that highlights various facts about their animal.

Second graders will write, record, and produce a song about their animal.

Third graders will write, record, and produce a one minute video that expresses feeling to inform and motivate an audience to save their animal.  The audio project will include all student work on a CD-ROM along with a Song Book.  The visual (movie) project will be produced as a DVD.

Water in Our World

TEAM III  Access to clean water is paramount to sustaining the health and well-being of our world population.  However, many American stude nts are unaware of the sources of thier own fresh water and they use water on a day-to-day basis.  Moreover, many students are unaware that many people in the world do not have adequate access to fresh water and this creates significant health and social problems.

In this unit of study students will learn about the fresh water sources and usage in the Puget Sound area.  They will learn how to create tables and charts (Using Microsoft Excel) that clearly illustrates water usage in Seattle.  They will use this knowledge to compare and contrast water usage in Africa.  Students will read first-hand accounts from Peace Corp volunteers about their experience with water in Africa.  Students will sythesize these essays into their own writing about how it might feel to have limited access to water.  All stories will then be recorded and produced as podcasts by the students.
