Have a great summer!

3rd Grade Homework Grids and Notebook/Folders
Homework Grid:  Please help your child by making sure they have completed their homework and by initialing the math section if she/he has studied the night's math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).  A homework packet will be sent home Friday.  Sign and return the homework packet the following Friday unless otherwise noted.  Math homework that follows the work we are doing in class will be sent home as we work through the lessons.  Look for the Parent Letters for information about the up-coming unit.  You may find it useful if you are unclear about an assignment.

Notebook/Folders:  You may choose to check their folders occasionally to help your child to keep the folders straightened and in working order.  Please don't throw away any papers you are not sure whether your child will need later.  We will be using the folders to store spelling list, ongoing work, phonic rules, and reading materials which we will be using throughout the year.  Student writing or math projects may need to stay in a binder for quite a while.  Don't throw them away!  Notebooks are to stay at school except when class work needs to be completed at home.  The notebook should be returned the following day, as we will be using it during the next class period.

Homework Policy
Homework is important because it sets a routine and allows time for practicing what we are learning in school.  It should take about 45 minutes a night, at most.  This includes 20 minutes of reading and 10 minutes of math practice, daily.

Introduction
Hi, I'm Margaret Gingrich.  I started my teaching career in California in 1983, teaching 3rd grade.  I then taught 1st grade for 9 years.  I moved to Seattle in 1996 and taught at Broadview Thompson.  I started at Montlake in 1999.  This is my 10th year here :)

I think kids learn best when it's fun.  So, I tried to add humor to my teaching when I can.  I also believe that when students struggle with learning, they just need a different approach.  I feel that I can provide that in a safe, encouraging, and positive environment.  No child should feel that they cannot achieve.

Contact me any time!

Contacting Me
If you need to reach me, my preparation time is 2:40-3:20pm.  This is a good time to call if you need to speak with me.  I am usually at school until 4:30pm.  You can leave a message and I will return your call.  I check my phone messages daily

If you send an email, please call my phone and let me know so I will  make sure to check my e-mail.  I do not check email daily.  I prefer to use the phone rather than email.
