Greetings from Math Challenge, an
after school program for Team III students who love math and would like to
extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the standard school curriculum.
The goal of the program is to present math as a fun and challenging
activity. The focus will be on
hands-on exploration, discovery, discussions and games with minimal lecture
time. Yet, the class is a serious
endeavor. Students will be expected to have their brains working, keep their
attention on the problem in hand, and put some effort into homework.
- Day and time: Friday,
3:30-4:30pm, in Room 9 (Mr. Schultz’s classroom).
- First day of class: October 23, 2009
- Instructor: Eric Nitardy.
- Assistant Instructor: Katia Nepom
- Program Coordinator: Julia Pevtsova, University of
Washington, former Montlake parent
- Fees: There is no tuition. The program is supported
by a grant of the National Science Foundation through the University of
Washington.

About Eric
After
working in the horticulture industry for many years, Eric has rekindled a
childhood interest in mathematics and is retraining to teach it. He is a recent
graduate of the University of Washington where he participated in and later
became a teaching assistant in the University’s Honors Math Program. This last year,
Eric was the math department’s outstanding Bachelor of Science graduate and
plans to attend graduate school in Education in 2010. He looks at Math as bit
of an art and a bit of a science but always challenging and fun.
About Katia
Katia Nepom is a first year undergraduate student at the
University of Washington studying computer science, math and psychology. She
has been participating in math clubs, math circles and math competitions
starting in middle school and lead the high school math club for her junior and
