Dear Montlake Families and Teachers,

We’d like to thank you again for all that you do for the

school.  As a direct result of your involvement and

support, the PTA has had a

successful and productive year.  In particular, we’ve focused on three goals this

year:

1)     Communication. Montlake’s web site is regularly updated and now gets significant viewing traffic every day.  Whether you are visiting www.montlakeschool.org to view the calendar, the teacher pages, Ms. Allan’s blog, or the latest school events on the Happenings page, we hope the site allows you to keep informed about all things Montlake.  We continue to communicate with families through the Thursday Bulletin and our three general PTA meetings.  This year we also revamped our school tours and broadcast our school spirit with Montlake sweatshirts and t-shirts.

2)     Fundraising and Volunteering.  Our PTA and families remained committed to providing a first-rate education at Montlake despite the school district’s financial troubles and the ongoing recession.  Thanks to our successful Annual Fund and Auction, we are able to continue supporting many vital programs at Montlake.  We are grateful to the many people who spent hundreds of hours preparing for and implementing our fundraising activities.  And we could not do without your donations, in whatever amount.  Thank you.

We are also thankful for your contribution of hundreds of hours of classroom and school volunteer time this year.  Parents worked with students in Read Naturally, Junior Great Books, sewing Shakespeare costumes, creating class art projects for the Auction, hauling compost for the outdoor classroom, hosting school tours, making photocopies, collating the Thursday Bulletin, updating the website, and in countless other ways.  Your volunteerism directly helps students learn, and it also shows students that adults value their education and their community.

3)     Fun.  From last fall’s Pizza and Math Night to the upcoming Carnival, we enjoyed another year of PTA-supported events that celebrate our school community.  Your enthusiasm and participation made these events a success.  Montlake is serious about learning, but we also know how to have fun.  For those of you who are returning next year, we look forward to celebrating with you again next year.

It has been a privilege working with you this year.  Have a great summer.

Lara Kreyenhagen and Liz Porter, Co-Chairs

Goals for 2009-2010
  •  Fundraising - Our fundraising efforts support core educational activities, including teacher salaries, the greenhouse program, the technology program, the library program, student scholarships, the Junior Great Books literacy program, and educational stipends for teachers.  We always need volunteers to help with our fundraising campaigns, such as our fall Annual Fund drive and our incredible spring auction.
  • Enrichment - The PTA offers a range of before-and-after-school classes.  This year we plan to begin Mandarin classes in addition to our fabulous French and Spanish programs!  Other options include chess, Lego engineering, and music.  We also host several evening events for parents and children, such as Pizza and Math Night.
  • Communication - Working closely with Ms. Allan, we continue to monitor and disseminate up-to-date information about developments within the school and in the school district.
